Maintaining healthy blood pressure levels has become a primary
concern for many in the United States and across the globe.
Blood pressure fluctuations cause a variety of cardiovascular
challenges, and this is one of the most common cardiometabolic
challenges experienced. In the Framingham study, the risk of
having blood pressure challenges over a lifetime was 90%,
while it is estimated that the global burden will increase to
1.56 billion by 2025.1

While traditional therapies are available, most are not well-tolerated, making diet and lifestyle changes, such as whole food-based diets, increasing physical activity and targeted nutrient support, the optimal way to maintain blood pressure levels already within the normal range.2
There is abundant evidence that dietary factors play a central role in determining cardiovascular risk driven by several
potential mechanisms.3

Among various factors determining human health, dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean diet or the DASH diet model have been demonstrated to play a role in helping maintain vascular health and preserving optimal blood pressure levels.4

A common feature of such dietary patterns is the richness in plant-derived foods, which are high in fiber and phytochemicals proven to be antioxidant powerhouses. Polyphenols are a large group of plant metabolites that exert a variety of key biological activities including increasing satiety hormones (like GLP-1 [glucagon-
like peptide-1]) and decreasing hunger hormones (like ghrelin). In addition, targeted plant bio actives have also been
shown to stimulate 5’adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which has been shown to be a primary
activating mechanism for human metabolism. AMPK may create such positive effects through its capability to modulate
energy homeostasis, total daily energy expenditure, lipid oxidation and metabolism.5
This product provides a targeted blend of key polyphenols that maintain energy and metabolic efficiency, maintain normal
blood pressure levels, and support overall cardiometabolic function.

America and Southern Europe. Hibiscus flower (Hibiscus
the manner of a tea to help maintain normal blood pressure
levels and normal inflammatory balance. Metabolaid® is a
combination of the plant polyphenols in lemon verbena and
hibiscus flower extracts. These extracts have been shown to
work synergistically on the activation of the energy sensor
AMPK and promote optimal metabolic efficiency through the
modulation of fat metabolism.

In a 2018 double-blind, placebo-controlled and randomized
trial in 56 subjects with weight management challenges,
participants were given 500 mg of a combination of
polyphenolic extracts from Lippia citriodora and Hibiscus
sabdarifa L. for two months and showed significant
improvement in body weight, abdominal circumference, and
body fat percentage. Heart rate and systolic blood pressure
also were maintained within the normal range.6

In another eight-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled
trial, 54 participants given the same extract showed an
improvement of anthropometric measurements, maintenance
of blood pressure within the normal range, and improved
heart rate. In addition, they experienced positive perception
of overall health status. This polyphenolic combination has
been shown to significantly increase metabolic function and
support healthy weight by decreasing appetite biomarkers.
This may help to avoid the undesired weight rebound typical of calorie restriction diets.5

Coffee is one of the most consumed drinks in the world. Green
coffee beans are the beans from the Coffea fruit that have not
yet been roasted. Coffee beans are naturally high in chlorogenic
acid, and roasting them reduces the chlorogenic acid content.
Chlorogenic acid, a polyphenol, is what holds the antioxidant
properties and increases the overall health benefits of coffee;7
therefore, the effects and benefits of coffee are maximized in
its natural and unroasted state. In addition, the green coffee
bean extract in this product has had the caffeine removed, so
the benefits of the polyphenols can be maximized.
A meta-analysis of nine randomized, controlled trials with
green coffee bean extract (GCBE) administered for four
weeks showed a benefit in maintaining blood pressure levels
already in the normal range—both systolic and diastolic.8
In
another systemic review and meta-analysis study consisting
of 637 participants, it was shown that green coffee bean
extract consumption can help maintain optimal lipid markers,
decrease body weight, and improve metabolism and glucose
disposal.9
Finally, in a randomized clinical trial, 43 subjects
consumed GCBE for eight weeks. After supplementation, all
indices of cardiovascular health showed benefits. Additionally,
waist circumference and appetite score of the individuals
supplemented with GCBE indicated a significant decline.10

that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body,
including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function,
blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation.11-13
Magnesium is required for energy creation, which involves
oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis. It contributes to the
development of bone and is required for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and the antioxidant glutathione. Magnesium also plays
a role in the active transport of calcium and potassium ions across cell membranes, a process that is important to nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, and normal heart rhythm.13 The role of magnesium as an enzyme cofactor for activities that generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP) highlight its significance for maintaining energy levels and metabolic efficiency.

A meta-analysis of randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies on the effects of magnesium supplementation on blood pressure showcased 34 trials involving 2,028 participants who, while using magnesium supplementation with a median duration of three months, showed benefits in maintaining systolic and diastolic blood pressure within the normal range for adults.14,15 Overall, oral magnesium citrate supplementation has been shown to maintain healthy blood pressure and blood sugar markers.15

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

Supports Restorative Sleep

Helps Induce Relaxation

Supports Positive Mood

This product is formulated to induce the relaxation needed to support better sleep for those experiencing temporary sleeplessness. The formula is especially suited to help those with difficulty falling asleep due to restlessness. This product includes valerian root, a well-known herb used to help with sleep-related issues and to produce a state of relaxation. Passionflower and jujube have been used historically to produce a state of relaxation, and have been used in those with overstimulation and scattered thoughts. L-theanine, an amino acid found in green tea, supports resilience to stress by increasing alpha brain wave activity. Two capsules of this product include 450 mg valerian root extract, 200 mg jujube seed extract, 150 mg passionflower extract, 150 mg L-theanine and 100 mg hops strobile extract.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the brain’s primary neurotransmitter which helps to counteract stress by promoting a sense of relaxation. While other therapies with a similar mechanism may cause dependency when used over an extended period of time, the natural ingredients in this product are non-habit-forming.

European studies have examined the effects of hops in combination with other sleep-supporting botanicals. The hops-valerian preparation was found to improve sleep quality by decreasing sleep latency and wake time throughout the night.18

Vitamin D is a steroid vitamin, a group of fat-soluble pro- hormones that are best known for the role they play in supporting bone health and aiding in the absorption of calcium and phosphate from the gastrointestinal tract. A growing body of research highlights vitamin D’s important role in supporting other body systems, including cardiovascular and blood sugar balance, musculoskeletal strength, and neurological and immune function, enabled by vitamin D’s ability to target over 200 different genes throughout the body. At the same time, deficiency and insufficiency of this important nutrient has reached epidemic proportions around the world, making the achievement of optimal levels extremely important to overall health and wellbeing. Vitamin D3 50,000 IU is ideal for those who have difficulty achieving and maintaining peak vitamin D levels. This often includes elderly patients with low vitamin D levels, those with challenges in absorbing and maintaining vitamin D levels, and overweight patients with an elevated body mass index that impairs vitamin D circulation. For those who require an immediate boost in their vitamin D status, the vitamin D3 50,000 IU formulation is a convenient, effective way to get the substantial support they need.

Known as the sunshine vitamin, one of the key roles of vitamin D is maintaining serum calcium and phosphorous balance. Our bodies make vitamin D by converting vitamin D2 (ergocaliferol) into D3 (cholecalciferol). Vitamin D3 is the bioidentical form of vitamin D synthesized in the skin following exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D3 is also the form which the body derives from dietary cholesterol. When calcium and phosphorus levels dip in the body, parathyroid hormone (PTH) is released to increase vitamin D conversion to the active form. D3 is then metabolized to calcitriol, a steroid hormone that helps regulate a variety of genes through the vitamin D receptor (VDR). While vitamin D is available in both the D2 and D3 forms as supplements, studies have found vitamin D3 is the preferable form. According to recent research from human clinical trials, vitamin D3 is approximately 87% more potent in raising and maintaining serum 25(OH)D concentrations, than the vitamin D2 form. [1] Vitamin D3 also produces a two- to three- fold greater storage of vitamin D than D2.[1]

While it has long been assumed that the majority of the population achieves adequate levels of vitamin D through exposure to the sun, the biosynthesis of the nutrient is affected by time of day, seasons, location, smog/pollution, clothing and sunscreen. In addition, those with darker skin require more exposure to the sun to attain adequate levels. These factors all contribute to the insufficiency seen in a growing portion of the population. It takes about 48 hours for vitamin D to be absorbed from the skin into the body and washing skin during that time period can interfere with absorption into the blood. Inadequate intake or levels of cholesterol can also inhibit the adequate production of the nutrient. Depleted levels of vitamin D may interfere with the normal development of teeth and bones, normal cell growth, and contribute to poor regulation of immune and nervous systems. Certain medications have been found to contribute to deficiency of vitamin D, including some anti-seizure medications, bile acid sequestrants, oral corticosteroids, and weight loss medications, which bind fats.[2] Bone and Dental Health† Numerous studies have highlighted the importance of vitamin D to maintaining healthy bone density. In one 2013 study, 52 overweight men and women with suboptimal vitamin D levels were given either 7,000 IU of cholecalciferol daily or a placebo for 26 weeks. The vitamin D group significantly increased vitamin D levels in the blood and improved biomarkers of bone health. [2, 3]

Consistent recycling of homocysteine is vital for supporting cardiovascular health. Proper methylation can be inhibited by nutrient deficiencies, especially of folic acid, B6 and B12.

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

Supports Gastrointestinal Function

Supports Bowel Regularity

This product is intended for the relief of occasional constipation. Aloe powder, the solid residue obtained by evaporating liquid aloe vera, has been shown in research to affect regularity, due to its influence on colon peristalsis, which it triggers to contract, resulting in accelerated intestinal passage. This product is available as 250 and 450 mg capsules, two potencies to provide tailored natural support for elimination. Also available in convenient blister packs.

Iron is one of the most abundant minerals on earth. It is essential to the majority of life forms, especially human physiology. Iron supports prenatal and cognitive health, as well as energy balance. Iron is an integral component of the proteins involved in oxygen transport and storage: hemoglobin, myoglobin and ferritin. Iron, as part of the protein hemoglobin, carries oxygen from the lungs to various parts of the body. Hemoglobin accounts for nearly two-thirds of the iron found in the body, and carries essential oxygen to tissues and organs. Approximately one- sixth of the body’s iron is stored as ferritin for use when dietary intake is not sufficient. Iron must be maintained at balanced levels within the body – too much can cause toxicity and too little may lead to impairment of optimal health outcomes. Iron has to be carefully absorbed by the body. Interference can easily occur, making adequate consumption through diet and supplementation imperative to achieving a healthy balance. [1-8]

If consuming an iron supplement has little effect on improving the body’s iron balance, there is no reason to ingest it. Signs of inferior mineral supplements include the use of cheap, poorly absorbed, rock- salt minerals. This product is formulated with the superior amino acid chelate form, ferrous bisglycinate, which does not ionize in the gut. Like heme iron (the most bioavailable form of iron found in some protein food sources), Ferrochel® Ferrous Bisglycinate is not impacted by dietary factors and is absorbed at a 59 % higher rate than lesser forms, such as ferrous sulfate (See Figure 1).

Comparison studies have shown significantly superior absorption of the iron chelate form compared to other rock- salt forms (most commonly ferrous sulfate).

Iron supplements are often a standard recommendation for the treatment of fatigue, particularly among women. A 2012 randomized study confirmed the efficacy of iron in supporting energy balance. French researchers studied nearly 200 menstruating women ages 18 to 53 who complained of fatigue but were otherwise healthy. All subjects had lower-than-normal ferritin levels (less than 50 mcg per liter). During the study, half of the subjects took 80 mg of iron daily, while the other half took a placebo. Fatigue was measured using a validated questionnaire at the beginning and end of the study. At the close of 12 weeks, patients receiving the iron pills reported favorable outcomes related to fatigue and energy balance compared to the placebo group. The researchers also found that iron supplements increased the production of red blood cells. h13]

The body’s cells and organ systems depend on an adequate supply of energy to function optimally. The mitochondria, known as the power house of the cell, contain nutrients and enzymes that are important for cellular energy metabolism. Some of these enzymes convert food to usable energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP functions as the key source of energy for all cells. In order to increase mitochondrial output, there must be adequate fuel supply for combustion and abundant antioxidants to scavenge free radical by-products. Preserving our energy reserves and increasing energy output is a critical part of maintaining optimal health. There are many things that can drain our energy reserves. Lack of sleep, too much stress, poor nutrition and prescription medications can draw on our energy reserves, using them up faster than they can be replenished. Even the vital biologic systems we rely on to maintain health can create an energy deficit that needs to be restored.

Some of the most energy demanding systems in the body are:

Liver detoxification

Immune protection

Cardiovascular function

Neurologic function

This product is scientifically formulated, based on published research, to boost mitochondrial reserves and jumpstart cellular energy production. [1] This product includes the powerful antioxidant trio of alpha lipoic acid, N-acetyl cysteine and acetyl L- carnitine, all shown to increase energy production and recharge the primary cellular antioxidant pools of vitamins E and C and glutathione.

Acetyl L-carnitine (ALC) is an amino acid that is associated with increased energy production. It has been shown to increase the flow of free fatty acids, the fuel source for mitochondria, resulting in a significant boost in energy production. ALC has been shown to increase cellular energy (ATP) production and has been found, in combination with lipoic acid, to lower oxidative stress. [2,3] Studies have also shown that ALC supports the immune response by protecting CD4 and CD8 immune cells and by supporting the reproduction of lymphocytes for the identification and elimination of invading antigens. [4,5]
